Bad VO5 Haircare Experience

Earlier on in the year, I raved about V05's Give Me Moisture Shampoo and followed that up with a further post about V05's Nourish Me Truly Shampoo. At the time, I felt like my hair needed revitalising and I that it was about time I spent some money on shampoos from well respected and professional brands... I was wrong. I try to be as honest as I can about products so wanted to share my experience frankly so that you don't experience this like me.

About a month ago, after using the shampoo since Late January, my hair started changing, the strands seemed to be getting thin and wirey and my hair had lost its soft bounciness. I put it down to hormones and forgot about it. Then, I was sitting on my laptop, my hair fanned around my shoulders and I was playing with it, pretty absentmindedly when I spied what at the time I thought was a grey hair. Obviously, I'm only 20 and I try and look after my body so it really wasn't a welcome sight. I pulled it straight out and searched my hair to check for more - I found three or four more stray hairs and pulled them out too.  In the coming days, I continued to find these hairs and continued to pull them out - I didn't even like looking at my hair in case I found another grey one.

I don't dye my hair and never have because I don't want to damage my hair, nor had I changed my haircare routine in anyway, so the only explanation was the shampoo. At first I thought that these were grey hairs and that the shampoo was turning my hair grey but after closer inspection and research, I've come to realise that the shampoo was in fact stripping my hair of its natural colour. These were clear hairs - not grey hairs as grey hairs are a different consistency and feel to other hairs usually - the hairs I was finding were exactly like my normal hair just colourless. One of my friends, who'd I advised to start using this product had exactly the same experience and had also started to find these clear hairs.

This shampoo had damaged my hair and I'd only just realised it - three months after using it to wash with in every shower. I've now thrown every bottle of V05 haircare in my house in the bin and changed to the shampoos I used to use (just cheapy normal shampoo's from the supermarket) and, it seems as though my hair is back to normal. Its taken a couple of weeks but now my hair is getting less and less wirey with each wash and I haven't found any clear hairs literally since the day I stopped using it. I've obviously lost the benefits that the shampoo was giving me like a lack of greasiness and the volume it was getting, but to have to suffer finding what I first thought were grey hairs at aged 20, I'm happy to give it up!

Have you ever had any bad haircare experiences? I'd love to hear your stories in the comments below.

VO5 'Nourish Me Truly' Shampoo [Review]

After my experience with the 'V05 Give Me Moisture Shampoo' (a review of which you can read HERE), I thought I'd try 'V05's Nourish Me Truly Shampoo'.

As I've said in previous shampoo reviews, I don't think that my hair really fits into any of the categories that V05 have created but went for the 'Nourish Me Truly' as it seemed like a great product to make my hair feel more alive and full of volume and the Give Me Moisture seemed to work brilliantly.

I presume that making the great smells of this range of products was one of the top priorities when they were produced because this shampoo smells fabulous. I have found with this shampoo that the smell isn't as strong as the "Give Me Moisture" and it doesn't linger as long on your hair but it does make the shower smell fab!

This shampoo hasn't made quite as much impact on my hair as the Give Me Moisture shampoo did. I don't know if thats because my hair had already been introduced to V05 Products or because its not as damaged as I thought but it hasn't really transformed my hair in anyway. I've tried alternating between this shampoo and the Give Me Moisture but that didn't seem to do anything either so perhaps I'll try another one of their collection once this one runs out.

Next time you're in town or in need of a new bottle of shampoo, trying one of the new V05 shampoos and conditioners would definitely be worth your while!

V05 'Give Me Moisture' Shampoo

During a recent shopping trip, my friend raved about the 'V05 Give Me Moisture Shampoo' and so I thought I'd give it a try myself!

I don't think that my hair really fits into any of the categories that V05 have created but went for the 'Give Me Moisture' as I thought it might give my hair a little bit of volume that it can sometimes lack. This is my first real venture into big brand hair care products - I usually just buy whatever is on sale at the supermarket when I need a new bottle - and I'm really impressed.

The bottle is nice - I love the bright pink colour - you get a lot of product for your money and the way that it comes out of the bottle itself is great in the shower. The shampoo smells INCREDIBLE, I cannot tell you how much I love that fresh fruity scent and even a full day after washing my hair, I can still smell it. The scent is definitely by favourite part about this shampoo - I'm a sucker for things that smell good!

The day after my first use was a great hair day - I got compliments on how nice my hair looked and I'd literally styled it as I do every other day! It gave my hair incredible amounts of volume and life to the curls, which came from putting my hair up in a bun when it was still wet, looked like they were expertly done at the salon. It made my hair more shiny, glossy and soft to the touch too!  The volume hasn't been quite the same in subsequent washes but I still really love it and will definitely be buying it again!

Next, I think I'm going to try the 'Gloss Me Smoothly' shampoo as my hair can get a bit frizzy and it might do something to tame it a little bit - I'll let you know when I try it. Next time you're in town or in need of a new bottle of shampoo, trying one of the new V05 shampoos and conditioners would definitely be worth your while!

Beauty Favourites: LUSH

Earlier in the year I attended a LUSH party, where we got to make the LUSH Sex Bombs and divulge in some after-hours shopping! Since then I've started visiting more and more often - Although it quite often makes me feel lightheaded being in the store because the smell is SO overpowering, I love it! This is actually another brand which is based nearby - in Poole! I'm really lucky to have so many beauty brands within easy driving distance and thought I'd share some of my favourite products from the store!

The first product that I really got into is the LUSH You've Been Mangoed Luxury Bath Melt. This is my go-to product for softer skin and when I'm feeling low or just want to treat myself, I'll pop into Lush and buy one. Slightly unconventionally, I actually use this product in the shower and not the bath - it does mean quite a long shower but it works just as well and means you can scrub tougher skin with the bar to make it softer. The scent is fabulously strong and stays with you all day. Although the product is a little expensive, it works wonders for my skin and I feel great afterwards.

Lush's Rehab Shampoo is incredible. I brought a bottle for my Mum for her birthday and it completely changed her hair around - she even thinks her hair has gotten thicker since she started using it! Her scalp and hair are now healthy, glossy and soft to the touch. Seems to me like this shampoo is literally rehab for your hair and not just a name!

With their cute wrapped boxes of goodies and fabulous products, LUSH is a great store to pop into for some gifts. I love the "Handmade" element to their branding and that it says who made your product on a sticker on each of the items. What are your favourite Lush products?
