Last Night's Looks: MTV VMA's

Katy Perry was one of two huge outfit surprises for me - normally at this kind of event, she goes for the gimmicky looks but she seemed to go for gothic-glamour at this event! She wore an Elie Saab Fall 2004 gown which features a leather bodice and teal & fuchsia embroidery with no jewelry and black pumps. I think the dress itself would have looked more grown up and elegant if it had a slip beneath it rather than the body suit and I would have loved to have seen her hair up in a girly up-do.

There were two big outfit shocks at the MTV Video Music Awards last night (September 6th) and not necessarily for bad reasons. As always, here are the 4 outfits that I found most interesting including Katy Perry, Emma Watson, Taylor Swift and Rihanna! Enjoy!

Emma Watson wore a Peter Pilotto Resort 2013 colour block top with black trims and embroidered a-line skirt, which she paired with Tom Ford heels and and a bubblegum pink make-up look! This is exactly the kind of look I normally expect at an awards show like this - its not about utter glamour but fun looks and Emma does that perfectly. I especially like the braided, halo-like hairstyle she's gone for - paired with the lace up sandal style heels, it gives the look a sophisticated edge with all those bright colours.

Taylor Swift was the other big shock for me last night - she didn't go for a girly look! Taylor wore a white J. Mendel Silk suit which she paired with metallic gold Tom Ford Sandals and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. We would normally expect to see her in a cute mini dress, heels, her hair curled and down or up and pretty and a nude make-up look - this was so different and I love it! Taylor has the perfect figure for menswear and pairing it with a daring make-up palette, intricate sandals and straight hair somehow looks feminine - love it!

Debuting her new hairstyle, Rihanna wore a custom-made white Adam Selman dress which she paired with nude Manolo Blahnik sandals and Neil Lane jewels. Rihanna is always changing up her hair so the pixie cut isn't a huge surprise and definately suits her face shape - especially with the bold red lips! This look is so subtely glamourous with the knots in the perfect places, the open back and high neckline it looks effortless and so chic!
